Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you use WeGotUs, we collect:

• Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and password (hashed)
• Tree data: Names, emails, and phone numbers of contacts you add to your Trees
• Emergency records: Timestamps, severity levels, and response data for emergencies and drills you trigger
• Usage data: Log data including IP address, browser type, and pages visited

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

• Deliver Beacon alerts and notifications to your designated Tree members
• Operate and improve the WeGotUs service
• Authenticate your account and maintain security
• Send transactional communications (e.g., password resets, confirmation emails)
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. Product Improvement and AI Development

This notice describes a possible future use. It does not mean that WeGotUs currently uses production incident data to train or fine-tune models.

4. SMS Messaging

WeGotUs uses Twilio to send SMS messages to you and your Tree members during incidents, drills, and for account-related notifications. By registering and consenting to SMS, you authorize us to send these messages. See our SMS Policy for full opt-in/opt-out details.

Phone numbers are shared with Twilio solely for the purpose of message delivery. Twilio's privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Policy.

5. Location Data

With the required mobile permission, WeGotUs periodically refreshes one latest-location snapshot, targeted about every 15 minutes. Each successful capture overwrites the previous routine snapshot; WeGotUs does not retain a routine movement history. Android and iOS may delay captures because of battery controls, connectivity, or other operating-system limits.

That stored snapshot or a fresh incident location may be disclosed only under these conditions:

• An incident is declared: Your location or canonical location status is disclosed to your Tree when an alert or conference is started, when Silent Alarm is activated, or when the durable no-response escalation fires.
• Your safety timer expires without check-in: Your location is shared with your Tree. Because you set the timer yourself, this sharing reflects your own contingency plan.
• A Tree member requests it during a qualifying active conference:Location may be shared only when a qualifying conference is active with at least two connected human participants, and a member presses the “Show Location” button.

Every location view is logged. The request, the name of the requester, the timestamp, and the names of all participants on the bridge call are recorded in the incident record. Location cannot be viewed quietly or anonymously.

We do not:

• Retain routine location history or a trail of your movements
• Provide continuous location tracking or a Tree-member map
• Share location data with third parties or advertisers

The optInLocation flag in your account reflects whether your browser has granted location permission to WeGotUs. It is a technical status flag, not a preference toggle. Location sharing during emergencies is a condition of service as described in our Terms of Service.

6. Information Sharing

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

• With Tree members: Your name and alert status are shared with members of your designated Tree during an active incident
• With service providers: We use Twilio (SMS), Resend (email), and infrastructure providers to operate our service
• Legal compliance: If required by law, court order, or to protect rights and safety

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and secure session management. However, no transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Emergency records are retained for 12 months to support incident review. You may request deletion of your account and data at any time by contacting us.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of SMS communications at any time (reply STOP)
• Export your data in a portable format

10. Children's Privacy

WeGotUs is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
